Ca-R-Ma plans fundraiser without hosting event

Kathy Bockus/Courier Ann Johnston, left, and Maureen Johnson, set a live trap in an attempt to catch a feral cat. The two are members of Ca-R-Ma. The group is looking for new volunteers and more peopele will to foster homeless cats and kittens.

St. Stephen -The Charlotte County Chapter of Ca-R-Ma will once again host an unusual fundraising event – a ball without the fancy dress or orchestra.

Anne Johnston, president of the local chapter of Cats Rescued in the Maritimes, said there’s no special date set for the “No-Ball Ball.”

Johnston said the public is welcome to send along its donations to help the group continue its work of spaying neutering and feeding homeless cats, feral and friendly. Ca-R-Ma has spayed and neutered 1,690 cats since 2008.

She said the group relies totally on the work of volunteers to provide food and shelter for feral cat colonies in the region, trapping the animals to be spayed or neutered and providing foster homes for young kittens captured from the colonies.
