It is with sadness that the family of Jill Fiander announces her death at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the age of 72. Born in St. Stephen, NB, on January 2, 1946, she was the wife of Allan Fiander of Fredericton. In addition to her husband, Allan, Jill leaves behind her son, Craig Fiander, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, of Doylestown, PA; granddaughters, Eva, Lila and Sophie Jane Fiander, all of Doylestown, PA; stepbrothers, Leigh Smith (Jean) of Kingston, ON, Richard Smith (Jane) of Breadalbane, NB, and Paul Smith (Pat) of Woodstock, ON; sisters-in-law, Mary Cochrane of Saint Andrews, Barbara Purton (Fred) of Saint Andrews; her nieces, nephews, and lifelong best friend, Margaret Ramsay (Ron). Jill was predeceased by her parents, Joe Finigan and Lilian Jean “Betty” (MacVay) Smith; stepfather, Morden Smith; aunt, Barbara Stickney; uncle, Bill MacVay. Jill was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She and Allan celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2017. She always put others before herself and was sweet, generous, compassionate and sensitive. Her intelligence was highlighted with her passion for reading and history, biographies in particular. She loved to engage in conversation and was uniquely skilled in making others’ opinions, ideas and activities important and meaningful. Jill was referred to by friends and family as a force of kindness and good spirit that could quickly change the mood of the room. She had a unique way of making you feel good about yourself with positive words and a wonderful smile. She was humble, independent and resilient. Jill had a special bond with her son and granddaughters and was adored for her unconditional love. She is deeply missed by her family and friends. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A private family graveside service and celebration of Jill’s life will be held at a later date in Saint Andrews, NB.
