Point Lepreau back operating at full power - Apr. 11, 2014
The Point Lepreau Generating Station was back operating at full power Thursday and generating about 660 megawatts of power.
The station went offline on the evening of April 5 following an issue with one of the turbine system pumps. The station was synchronized to the grid April 9, and over the next 24 hours, power was gradually increased back to 100 per cent while completing the required testing to ensure all systems are operating as per design.
“We are pleased that our team of nuclear professionals was able to quickly identify and fix the equipment issues,” said Sean Granville, site vice-president and chief nuclear officer for NB Power. “These issues posed no risk to our staff, the public or the environment. We plan to operate the station at 100 per cent power until we take it off line in early May for our planned maintenance outage.”
