Fundy JV rugby awaits playoff opponent after undefeated season - May. 27, 2014

The only AA junior varsity team in Charlotte County completed a perfect regular season this year, going 5-0 and earning the right to host a playoff game, likely sometime this week.
Fundy High School has one of the deepest rugby programs in the region, and despite their boys varsity squad failing to advance past the regular season, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future given the junior varsity team’s production.
Playing against AAA schools like Saint John High School, and other AA schools like Hampton High School, the Mariners had little trouble in the six-team league.
They started their season with a lopsided 47-5 win over St. Malachy’s. Their next game, against Saint John High School, was a tight 20-15 contest in which they came out on top. In their next two games the team outscored their opponents 98-7. They were given a 20-0 forfeit win over Harbourview High School, as the opponent was unable to play the game.
Head coach Tyson McGee said the team is still waiting for results from other league games to determine who – and when – they will play.
“The boys have come together as a team and, despite some injuries, are playing very well,” he said. “They have greatly improved on defense since the beginning of the season and are continuing to improve each game.”
