Village having problems with ATVs - Mar. 22, 2013

The village of Blacks Harbour is having quite a problem with ATVs riding on the roads, said Mayor Terry James at Wednesday night’s village council meeting.
She raised the topic as council went over the monthly report from the RCMP.
There was no officer present to discuss the matter.
“We are having a heck of a problem with ATVs. We are going to have to have a discussion with them (RCMP) on it. Besides running dogs, ATVs are the next in complaints.
“I don’t know why they don’t use the trails that are provided and keep off the roads. There are some who insist on screeching up and down the street and people are getting really ugly. Whenever the RCMP shows up, we will have to discuss that.”
Coun. David Maher said everyone knows the names of the culprits – it is just a question of reporting them – and James noted that one of the ATV riders flipped his machine right in someone’s yard.
Maher suggested that council table the RCMP report until either an RCMP officer arrived at the meeting – and no one did – or until the next meeting.
