ST. GEORGE – A proposal by Acadian Bus Lines to cut the bus service it provides between Saint John and Bangor, Me., would have a detrimental effect on people in Charlotte County, says Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet.
Acadian will be appearing before the Energy and Utilities Board in the near future with its application, he said.
The fisheries minister said he has written to the councils in St. George, St. Andrews, St Stephen and Blacks Harbour to let them know what is in the works.
Since Charlotte County has no other means of public transportation in the St. Stephen to Saint John corridor, Doucet has asked if the municipalities plan on appearing at the hearing to express their concerns about this application.
“I feel such a cut in service will greatly inconvenience the people in our area who might use it to attend doctors’ appointments or conduct other business in Saint John,” he said
An intercession could be made as a group, by a designated person or a letter could be addressed to the EUB.
They should be forwarded to Ms. Lorraine Legere, Board Secretary, New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board, P.O.Box 5001, 15 Market Square, Suite 1400, Saint John, E2L 2Y9
The phone number is 658-2504 or 1-866-766-2782. Legere will notify anyone who has contacted the EUB when the date for the hearing of this application is set, Doucet said.
