Wall of Fame still under consideration for civic centre - Oct. 03, 2013
Work is progressing on the construction of the Garcelon Civic Center.
“They are there early in the morning and late at night,” said Mayor John Quartermain.
He said while no specific alternate opening date has yet been decided upon, the work is continuing on the $19.6 million recreational and convention centre facility.
“They’re pouring the rink floor now,” said the mayor on Wednesday of this week.
October of 2013 was the original target opening date set for the civic centre.
Quartermain said there have been a few construction delays caused by a holdup in equipment delivery, such as that of the LED lights for above the arena, but a decision was made to adjust the construction schedule to compensate and proceed with the pouring of the rink floor.
The mayor said the civic centre manager, Natalie Reid, is “getting up to speed” on the project.
He also said the “Wall of Fame” for the civic centre, consisting of pictures of local sports heroes, was still under consideration.
St. Stephen won the bid to host the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame banquet June 7, 2014 at the civic centre.
