Provincial Building workers sent home early because of mysterious odour - Jan. 09, 2014

St. Stephen
An unusual odour wafting through office spaces forced the early closure Wednesday of the Provincial Building in St. Stephen shortly before noon.
St. Stephen Provincial Court is located on the second floor of the building, but it was not disrupted as there were no cases scheduled to be heard Wednesday afternoon.
A local spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure said he and his staff were investigating “some type of smell.”
DTI did not make the decision to send workers home early, he said. That was done by the supervisors of the various provincial services offered in the building.
“We’re still investigating. We haven’t found a cause. We did some testing and found nothing at all. We will do some further testing this morning (Thursday),” said the DTI spokesperson.
He said it was hard to pinpoint where the odour originated with office equipment like photocopiers running and external air coming into the building through air exchangers.
