Locals beat NRA at their own game - Feb. 01, 2013
The St. Croix Sportsman’s Club recently travelled to Augusta, Me., at the invitation of the National Rifle Association (NRA), a powerful gun advocacy group in the United States. They are happy they did.
Competing in the NRA Sectional, the Canucks showed the Americans what they were made of. Scott Ring, the clubs only air pistol shooter, won one of two first-place finishes in pistol shooting. The other one was brought home by Steve Smith, the chief range officer for the club in St. Stephen. The two ended up tied in scoring, with Ring capturing first in the sub junior class, and Smith placing first in expert.
The air rifle shooters were also able to claim glory. Delayne Donahue placed first overall. Second place went to Emily Dean, who was only back for three days from Australia and the International Youth Olympic Festival, where she competed as part of the Canadian contingent. (See story next page)
The sub-junior division for air rifle shooting was swept by the St. Croix Sportsman’s Club. Janelle Snow won first place, Sarah Henry won second, and Kloe Hall claimed third.
