Softball playoffs approach final - Aug. 27, 2013
The St. Stephen softball league is well past a full swing and rounding a corner towards the league finals.
On Sunday night, the first round of the playoffs was finalized, leaving four teams to contend for the title. The two remaining series began Monday night for all four teams.
In the opening game of the evening, the Purple Cobras used a Billy Mitchell home run to power them towards a 5-1 win over the Outlaws. Mike McCullough was the winning pitcher for the Cobras.
The second game saw A-Plus Auto Glass jump out to a five-run lead in the first inning in their opening of a five-game series against the Pirates. From there, Richard Brown was able to hold the Pirates off from the mound and A-Plus went on to a 9-0 win.
Play continues tonight, when both series will continue. Games are played at the ball field behind St. Stephen High School. The opening pitch tonight is at 6:45 p.m.
