Cheerleaders plan fund-raising ‘cheer-a-thon’ - Jan. 22, 2014

The members of Cheer Atlantic Allstars intend to strut their stuff this weekend and raise money at the same time.
On Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Stephen Middle School, the 80 members of the various club teams, will participate in a “cheer-a-thon” to raise money to help defray expenses incurred when they travel to provincial and national competitions.
Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend to see what cheering is all about said Susan MacDonald, coach of the international open category of members.
MacDonald said each cheer-a-thon participant has had to come up with sponsors. Each team – from the tiny, mini, junior, and senior to the international open, whose members range in age from two years to 32 – will be performing routines in half hour intervals, entertaining those watching.
The routines will also serve as extra practice sessions, said MacDonald, for competitions scheduled for Moncton the first weekend in February.
The club is also offering a bake sale that weekend as well as silent auction items.
Club members come throughout the county — St. Stephen, Saint Andrews, St. George and Blacks Harbour — as well as from Calais.
