Sixty-nine years ago, Kim Smith’s father and brother witnessed a tragic plane crash. Years later, they had to live through one of their own.
The first happened on Jan 23, 1943. Kim’s father Prescott Smith was on the Murray Farm at Hills Point, which he managed, when he noticed three military training aircraft, a common sight during wartime. They frequently flew out of Pennfield.

Nickel drilling tests produce encouraging results - Jan. 26, 2012

The company conducting test drilling for nickel deposits in areas just outside town limits has confirmed the discovery of new nickel-copper sulphide mineralization.
Continental Nickel Limited of Bathurst (TSXV: CNI) announced it is continuing its exploration in an area on Route 735. A spokesperson for the company expects to soon move drill equipment to a site in the Elm Street Nature Park.
