Saint Andrews – Four enterprising young women, who call themselves “Chics for a Cause”, decided to put on a gala event at the Algonquin Resort and donate the funds raised to a charity.
The “Chics” – Tracy Craig, Lisa Stevens, Pia Driscoll and Janice Trevena – sold all 200 tickets, priced at $85 each, for the Pink Carpet Gala held Oct. 28 and raised $20,540 which they donated to Charlotte County Cancer.
“Basically we came up with the logo and decided we wanted to put on a gala and raise money for someone. This year we decided on Charlotte County Cancer,” said Craig.
“We plan to do it every year and will choose a different cause each year. We are a group of girls coming together o have some fun and raise some money.”
It was an opportunity, she said, for the women who attended to get dressed up in fancy ball gowns and everyone had their photos taken by a professional photographer.
They enjoyed a sit down dinner, said Craig, and most of the money was raised from a live auction and the various games such as the balloon pop where you bought a balloon then popped it to find the prize inside.
There were 10 items in the live auction, she said, and even a cake went for $225. Other items include such things as a girls’ getaway at the Rossmount Inn and Montreal Canadiens tickets.
Winner of the grand prize raffle, which included two West Jet tickets to anywhere they fly, Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors tickets, was Alyssa MacIsaac.
