At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB, on July 29, 2017, where he had just moved into earlier this year, Mr. Harold Thomas Smith, loving husband of Edythe (Buckley) Smith of Pennfield, NB. Born in Saint John, NB on January 29, 1924, he was a son of the late Alphonso and Mary (Cogswell) Smith.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Edythe, he is survived by two sons, Brian Smith of Pennfield, NB and Ricky (Olive) Smith of Pocologan, NB; grandchildren, Angela (Ted) Weaire, Chris (Amanda) Smith, Lori-Beth (Jason) Robinson, Brianne (Matthew) Winchester, Jeremy (Sara) Smith, Joel Smith, Jana (Joe) Long and Chinena; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Margaret) Smith; sisters-in-law, Pauline, Georgia, Connie and Mabel, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert Joel Smith; brothers, Earl and Lewis, and sister, Maybelle Johnson.
Following graduation from Saint John High School in the early 1940’s, Harold later met his loving wife Edythe and started a family. They eventually moved to Pennfield to work and live at the C. P. R. station with their three sons.
He then started his lifelong interest in the motel and restaurant business which he continued until this year. He will be sadly missed.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB. Visitation will be held at the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour, NB on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service will take place at the church on Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Greg Card officiating, followed by the interment at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. In Harold’s memory, donations to the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
