Spartans advance in post-season

Kate Scott/Courier The St. Stephen Spartans football team take to the field after halftime in quarterfinals at the St. Stephen High School earlier today. The Spartans defeated the Simonds Seabees 31-14 to advance to semifinals, which the Spartans will host next Saturday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m.

St. Stephen – Two St. Stephen High School teams advanced in the post-season Saturday.

In a home game at the St. Stephen High School, the Spartans football team hosted the Simonds Seabees in quarterfinals.

Despite a 14-7 deficit at the half, the Spartans scored a field goal and three touchdowns in the second half to defeat the Seabees 31-14. The squad will now host semifinals at the school next Saturday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m.

In varsity boys soccer action, the Spartans travelled to Perth-Andover to meet the Southern Victoria Vikings this morning at 10 a.m. in a must-win game to advance to provincials.

The Spartans handily defeated the  Vikings 4-0. In a later game, the Spartans met Polyvalante Thomas Albert (the winner of a match up between PTA and Rothesay) in a seeding match.

The Spartans defeated PTA 2-0 for its second shutout of the regional final, to claim the southwest regional crown. The squad is now slated to host provincials at the school next Saturday (Nov. 4).
