St. Stephen – The St. Stephen Lady Spartans hockey team’s ticket to provincials won’t get punched this year.

The Spartans took on the Carleton North Stars in a best of three regional playoff series to determine which team would head to provincials. The Spartans were swept in two games.

In the first game, which took place at the Garcelon Civic Center last week, the Spartans started strong. In the team’s second shot on net, a little more than five minutes into the first frame, Olivia Amos found the twine with an assist from Grace Huys. The Spartans held the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first period, and the majority of the second, but with less than three minutes remaining, the Stars notched the tying goal.

To the Spartans’ dismay, a little more than a minute later, the Stars took a 2-1 lead. The Stars skated away with the victory after a goal late in third, and vastly outshot the Spartans in the period 13-2.

The Spartans season came to an end Friday in the Carleton North Rink after a 3-0 shutout.
