Ben Wright opened the scoring, followed with goals from Carter Wright and Daniel Robinson.

The Whalers’ final goal was scored in the third frame by Tanner Hatt on an empty net.

Denise Thompson, president of the Charlotte County Minor Hockey Association, who attended the game, with a laugh said when Hatt shot the puck; he didn’t realize the net was empty.

“It was a great day for the team,” Thompson recalled. “In the pre-season it was pretty rough with some tough losses, but in the regular season, they only lost one game,” she added of the squad’s 15-1 regular season record.

Another team from Charlotte County Minor Hockey Association, the bantam A Whalers, competing in the A/AA division attended the Day of Champions, but fell 4-1 to the Sussex Rangers.

The bantam A Whalers are competing in an eight team provincial tournament this weekend in Cocagne, NB.
