EASTERN CHARLOTTE – Wondering what recreational activities are available in Eastern Charlotte?
Eastern Charlotte Parks & Recreation is holding a recreation expo on June 29. Coun. Adam Hatt said the idea behind the event is to help bring the community together post-amalgamation and provide residents with information about what’s available in the area for recreation.
Hatt said he wanted to “bring everybody in, kind of meet and greet and give them a one-stop shop for activities.”
The expo won’t just be for children either. Hatt says there will be options for adults and seniors, as well.
Those who are interested will be able to sign up for minor hockey or lacrosse and other leagues. If the league isn’t taking registrations at the time, people will be able to leave contact information and be contacted when the league or activity is ready to sign people up.
Hatt said they had a list of about 26 groups that have been contacted about participating.
“Right now, we have 17 that have committed,” Hatt said about the event.
Hatt is pleased with the number of groups that have signed on for the inaugural event and is hopeful more will before the date.
There has been a large influx of new people move to the area, says Hatt, and relying on word of mouth isn’t necessarily fair to newcomers who don’t know many people.
“Activities for all ages is really what we want to strive for,” said Hatt.
Groups wanting to put a table or booth at the expo can contact Adam Hatt via email at adam.hatt@easterncharlotte.ca or Cara Hatt at cara.hatt@easterncharlotte.ca. The event is free for both exhibitors and attendees.
The expo will take place at Magaguadavic Place starting at 6:30 p.m.
