BLACKS HARBOUR — The provincial government approved a new Class 1 air quality approval for the Clover Leaf Seafoods plant in Blacks Harbour, according to a press release last week.

The fish processing and fish meal production plant smokes and cans herring and produces fish meal for the agriculture and aquaculture industry.

“The company’s current approval expires on April 14, with the new five-year approval taking effect on April 15,” said the press release. “The approval follows a public consultation process that included a public review, which ran from Oct. 4, 2023, to Feb. 4, 2024.”

See the approval information and conditions on the Department of Environment and Local Government website or at any regional office of the department.

The law requires “Class 1 major industries” to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act, and to operate within the terms and conditions established in the approval.
