BLACKS HARBOUR – Blacks Harbour has reduced its tax rate for 2022, with a total annual approved budget of $1,674,361.
“Last year’s tax base decreased by 10.19 per cent,” said Mayor John Craig, “amounting to a $5,983,600 reduction. The 2022 tax base only increased by 2.71 per cent while the rest of the province averaged 20 per cent,” he added.
Blacks Harbour village council held the 2022 tax rate at 1.5980 per $100 of assessment, slightly less than the 2021 assessment of 1.5990.
“The 2021 tax rate was based on the closing of the (Patrick Connors) arena operations for the fall of 2021,” said Craig, “but the 2022 budget includes a full season of arena operations for the Fundy region.”
Craig said the water and wastewater budget was approved at $513,762, and water and sewage rates have increased by 1.89 per cent, which Craig said “works out to $9 per year, per household”.
Blacks Harbour will continue a 15 per cent reduction if the bill is paid within 30 days of being issued. You can watch Blacks Harbour council meetings via Facebook. The next regular meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 15.
