Campobello Ward 2 remains unrepresented after no candidates step up

FREDERICTON — Nominations closed on Apr. 12 for vacant local-government positions around New Brunswick but the council seat for Ward 2 on Campobello Island will remain empty after nobody was nominated for the position.

The community with get another crack at representation when the next local-government byelections happen, likely in December 2024, said a press release from Elections New Brunswick.

Elsewhere in the province, districts where local candidates offered will have byelections on May 6. That includes Carleton North (councillor for Ward 4), Grand Lake (councillor for Ward 2), Île-de-Lamèque (councillors for Ward 3 and Ward 5), and Lakeland Ridges (mayor).

Three races were also settled by acclamation, when only one candidate emerged in each field: Arcadia (councillor for Ward 3), Nackawic-Millville (councillor for Ward 5), and Lakeland Ridges (councillor for Ward 4).
