FMBA Hoop Happenings

Charlotte County – The Fundy Minor Basketball Association (FMBA) is pleased that The Saint Croix Courier and Courier Sports will provide this space each week to provide coverage of all that is happening within this association.

FMBA provides programs for the youth of Deer Island, Back Bay, St. George, Pennfield, Blacks Harbour, Saint Andrews and adjacent rural areas.

“Name that team!” The players did just that. We are pleased to announce that the new name for the FMBA teams is the “Fundy Force”.

Competitive Program (Rep Teams)

The FMBA offers four competitive programs: Under 12 Boys – Coaches Andrew Hamilton and David Craig, Under 12 Girls – Coaches Jay Jones and Sara Smith, Under 14 Boys – Coach Joel Halse, Under 14 Girls – Coaches Paul Fudge, Julie Ingalls and Hal Mersereau.

Developmental Program (formerly House Program)

A new program is being offered at the Under 14, Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8 ages. Details of these programs will be outlined in future articles.

FMBA Rep Results Week of Nov 6

Under 12 Boys

Blacks Harbour Elementary was the scene of U12 boys action on Sunday, with Fundy coming away with two victories.

Behind a well balanced scoring attack, the Force downed St. Stephen 52-30, with Max Smith leading the scoring with 10. Aiden Jones (nine), Jack Leavitt (seven), and Cohen Chase (six) added to the Fundy attack. Gage Wilcox of St. Stephen lead all scorers with 15.

With Lancaster providing the opposition in game two, Fundy got scoring from 11 players on route to a 52-34 win. Smith (10), Jones (nine), Leavitt (seven), and Josh Kinney with six, lead the Force at the offensive end. Ball movement provided a path to victory for the U12 boys in these early season games.

Under 12 Girls

The U12 girls hosted St. Stephen and Woodstock at Fundy Middle and High School (FMHS) on Sunday.

Battling their county rivals, the U12 girls downed St. Stephen 32 – 15 after leading 18 -7 at the half. Leading scorers for the Force were Claira Blanchard with 12, Molly Cook (eight) and Elisa Gaudette (four). Zoe Weeks dropped in four for St. Stephen.

In the Woodstock game, a seesaw battle saw the Thunder emerge with a nail biting 27 -25 win, after leading 14 – 12 at the half.

The top Fundy scorers were Cook and Gaudette each with six, while Sasha Buchanen added four. Sophie Farrell with 12 and Brynn Marshall, with six, lead the way for Woodstock. A good strong effort was put forth by the U12 girls in their home opener!

Under 14 Boys

They play their first games this coming Sunday.

Under 14 Girls

The U14 girls hosted Grand Manan and Hampton on Sunday at FMHS, playing with a split squad.

The Fundy squad downed Grand Manan 52- 21, after a 31-10 halftime lead. Hannah Borthwick paced the scoring attack of the Force, with 14 points, while Brooke Thompson added eight and Peyton Hamilton netted six. Breighton McLaughlin with six, Skye Small and Abbi Zwicker with four each, lead the Grand Manan offense.

In their match up with Hampton, Fundy built a 29-4 halftime lead before cruising to a 46-17 win. Page McMillan lead the Fundy attack with 14, while Borthwick hit for six.

Solid defensive efforts contributed to success on the court on this day for the Fundy U14 girls.

Under 14 Girls: Nov. 17 at River Valley 7 p.m. Nov 19. at Forest Hills School (Saint John) – 1:30 p.m. vs. Fred Caps B and 3 p.m. vs. East SJ
