MACPHEE, Margaret Kathleen

MACPHEE, Margaret Kathleen (Ayer) – November 9, 1937 – January 20, 2020 – It is with hurting hearts that the family of Margaret Kathleen (Ayer) MacPhee announce her sudden and unexpected passing at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on January 20, 2020. Born in Middle Sackville, NB she was the daughter of the late Gerald Milton Ayer and Kathleen Lucinda (George) Ayer.

Mom was a hard worker all her life, raising her five children as a stay-at-home mom. To help in providing for us, we remember her growing strawberries and baking bread to sell, and in the fall she was at the potato fields and was very proud when having the most barrels filled at the end of the day. She was a skilled sewer and knitter and spent many hours making clothes for us and later bridesmaid and wedding dresses for family members. She became an owner/operator of the White Swan Motel in St. Stephen in 1976 and continued that business with a hands-on approach until the sale of it in 2005. Her customers enjoyed the clean rooms and meticulous grounds that were kept. She made time to enjoy golfing, curling and bowling, and in her younger years loved to ski-doo and was known to compete in local snowmobile races. At the age of 50 she took up downhill skiing, which she enjoyed for many years, especially when she was able to do it with her grandchildren. She spent many, many hours creating cross-stitch masterpieces for herself and her family. She had a tremendously competitive spirit in whatever she chose to get involved in and a work ethic above reproach.

Marg leaves behind her five children: Brian (Cathy) of Labrador City; Michael (Susan) of Quispamsis; Marilyn Kennedy (Larry Doherty) and Melanie Curran (Sonny), both of St. Stephen; Kevin (Lorna) of Hampton; her sister, Dorothy Smith (Rodney) and sister-in-law, Evelyn Ayer, both of Sackville; 10 grandchildren: Kristin Foreman (Andrew); Kerri MacPhee (Lisa Penney); Angela MacPhee (Kenny Charlton); Shana MacPhee (Tony Myles); Justin MacPhee (Jessie); Tara Noddin (Owen); Somer Kennedy; Haley Leigh (Jeff); Jessica MacPhee (Kris Hughes); and Kendra MacPhee (Marshall Tinker); 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and the father of her children, Phillip MacPhee (Rothesay).

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Bobbitt (2002), and her brother, George Ayer (2019).

In keeping with Marg’s wishes, cremation has taken place. No funeral service or visitation at this time. A graveside service will be announced for late spring.

The family will be forever grateful and would like to express sincere appreciation to the Charlotte County Hospital CCU nurses, Angie, Sandra, Gwenda and Taylor, for their compassionate and exceptional care of our mother, and the family in general, during her short stay at the hospital. The family is also grateful for the love and home care support provided by her granddaughter, Tara, and family friend, Donna Legassie.

For those who wish, donations in Marg’s memory to the New Brunswick Lung Association, Charlotte County Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be sent online to www.mehanfuneralhome.ca.
