MCCAFFREY, Merwyn Olivia

MCCAFFREY, Merwyn Olivia – Merwyn was born on May 13, 1929 at the Jackson home in Baillie, daughter of the late James and Annie (Fraser) Jackson. Wife of the late Kenneth Thomas McCaffrey. They lived most of their married life at the Ledge. Merwyn passed away at Lincourt Manor on March 9, 2024.

  She attended school in Baillie. Sometimes in the winter she had to snowshoe there. In her early years she attended the Baillie United and Baptist churches. In her later years she attended the Ledge United Church and Bible Study.

  Merwyn was very quiet. She enjoyed country music, picking blueberries, shopping, her flower gardens and house plants. She liked to feed and watch the birds. She especially liked cardinals. She enjoyed baking and was always trying new recipes. Merwyn enjoyed short Sunday drives with Ken.

  Merwyn babysat (including some of her grandchildren) and worked at the Flakeboard during the evenings as a janitor.

  She is survived by four children: S. Marlene (Harry) Sewell of Cornwall, Ont., Linda (Robert) Ames of Lawrence Station, Dwayne (Andrea) McCaffrey of St. Stephen, Dennis (Sandra) McCaffrey of Little Ridge; nine grandchildren: Jason Sewell, Carolyn (Guy) Dazé of Cornwall, Ont., Matthew (April) Ames of Charters Settlement, Amy (Scott) Slipp of Grand Bay-Westfield, Joshua (Katie) Ames of DeWolfe, Jonathan (Rebecca) McCaffrey of Old Ridge, Laura (Emile) Cabot of St. Stephen, Jeremy (Jennifer) McCaffrey of Turner Valley, Alberta, Brittney (Jonathan) Waters of St. Stephen; 17 great-grandchildren: Jesse and Carina Sewell, Isaac, Abby and Olivia Dazé, Sydney and Drew Slipp, Donavan, L.J., Travis, Jaxon and Shawn McCaffrey, Tyson and Erick Cabot, Hannah, Elliott and Avery Waters; several nieces and nephews.

  Merwyn was also predeceased by siblings: Ethel (Linton) Donald, Ellery Jackson (Louise) and Velma Mitchell (Lloyd).

  Funeral service was held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home on March 12th, with burial at the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery. Rev. Mark Hovey officiated. Three hymns were played: In the Garden, How Great Thou Art, and Amazing Grace.

  Pallbearers were Dwayne McCaffrey, Dennis McCaffrey, Jonathan McCaffrey, Matthew Ames, Joshua Ames and Drew Slipp.

  Donations in memory of Merwyn were made to Charlotte County Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society, St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, Kirk-McColl Memorial Fund, Charlotte County SPCA and other charities.
