McKNIGHT, Mary Joan


With great sadness, the family of Mary Joan (Sampson) (Cloney) McKnight announce her passing at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB, on December 8, 2016. Born February 9, 1932 in Milltown, NB, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Brown) Sampson.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Frederick Cloney, and her loving second husband, Clifford McKnight. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Madeline, Eugenia, Cathleen, Joseph, George and Alice.
Mary started work at Ganong’s and the Cotton Mill. She moved to Brockway upon her first marriage, where she had her four children. She then became a housekeeper/nanny to Dr. Marie McKnight and Michael Whitford’s children. Mary called them her “other family”. She married Clifford, her love, in 1995 and moved to the Ledge Road, where she was warmly welcomed by the McKnight family, gaining four more sons and a daughter.
Mary loved her flowers, both in Brockway and on the Ledge. Mary and Clifford both loved drives in the truck to the canteen for ice cream.
Mary received exceptional care from Home Support, Extra-Mural Nurses, C&D Manor, nurses and doctors from Charlotte County Hospital, Wauklehegan Manor and her physician, Dr Konforte.
Mary is survived by her children, Nancy Sue Bird (Gary) of Hanwell, NB, Joanne Way (Gordon) of Old Ridge, NB, Heather Russell (Michael) of Old Ridge, NB, Gregory Cloney (Erica) of Hayman Hill, NB; her stepchildren, Hugh McKnight (Joan), Robert McKnight (Bonnie), Sharon Bronson (Mike), all of St. Stephen, NB, Gordon McKnight (Pearl) of Eastport, ME, Brian McKnight (Scott) of Portland, ME; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Gayton of Lincoln, NB; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, NB on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 3 p.m. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.
