Milltown Activities Group to hold inaugural Christmas event

MILLTOWN – The Milltown Activities group, launched this past summer, is holding its first Bandstand Lighting ceremony on Nov. 26.

Amy Mayhew, an organizer with the group, said the bandstand has been lit up for Christmas in the past but that this is the first time a whole day of events has been scheduled to launch the holiday season.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a craft sale at St. Patrick’s Hall with a variety of local vendors from Milltown and St. Stephen.

“We decided to do a craft market to showcase the great vendors we have in the area,” explained Mayhew.

The idea grew out of discussions with the new activities group about what they could do to try to promote Milltown and give residents who may not be able to venture further afield the opportunity to source work from local craftspeople. The group sold out all its vendor spots within a month and have a wait list for next year.

In the evening, the bandstand will host local musicians beginning at 6 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive at about 6:30. There are some surprise performers that Mayhew would not divulge.

“There are some special, little guests coming for that,” she teased.

The Town of St. Stephen is donating free hot chocolate for the evening and Ganong is providing treats for children.

St. Patrick’s Hall is located at 407 Milltown Blvd. and entry to the craft fair is free. The bandstand is in Memorial Park at Queensway and Church Street.
