McAdam – The CertainTeed gypsum wall-board plant in McAdam announced Thursday, July 16 it would cease all production effective Friday, August 28 with a planned full closure of the plant effective Sunday, February 28, 2021.
The closure will eliminate 59 jobs in the region. It’s approximated two-thirds of the employees reside in McAdam, with others coming from Fredericton, Harvey and St. Stephen.
CertainTeed said in a statement the closure was the result of “poor market conditions”, resulting in the plant currently functioning at only 22 per cent of it’s full capacity.
In a press release, the Village of McAdam stated it had reached out to provincial government officials to request a meeting with Premier Blaine Higgs to discuss the closure and “develop a strategy” to minimize the impact on the local community.
