Police issue 352 tickets during enforcement blitz

ST. STEPHEN — From Feb. 29 to March 2, New Brunswick police conducted “a traffic enforcement operation” on highways in St. George, St. Stephen, Oromocto and Minto, handing out 352 tickets.

Violations included 226 tickets for speeding drivers and six tickets for to drivers of uninsured vehicles, according to a press release from RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Ghislain David. Police also said they arrested three people for driving with suspended driver’s licences and towed and impounded two vehicles whose drivers were travelling more than 50 kilometres per hour over the limit.

“Our top priority remains to ensure public safety by limiting the amount of speeding motorists on our roads,” David said in the press release. “The public can also assist in keeping dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to police. If you see a dangerous or a sus- pected impaired driver, don’t hesitate to call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police.”
