RCMP arrest 54-year-old man following the robbery of two individuals at ATM’s in St. Stephen on Labour Day Monday

St. Stephen – A 54-year-old man from St. Stephen has been arrested following two robberies at two local banks in the community.

On Monday, September 7, shortly after 10 a.m., a woman using the ATM inside the Scotiabank branch on Milltown Boulevard in St. Stephen was approached by a man who demanded money, claiming he had a weapon. The man left with an undisclosed amount of money.

At approximately 2 p.m. the same day, a woman who was at the CIBC on King Street was approached by a man who tried to grab her wallet. The woman was assaulted, but did not suffer serious injuries. The man fled on foot with the woman’s purse and wallet.

Through their investigation, police were able to identify an individual believed to be responsible for both robberies. At approximately 7:20 p.m., the individual was located in a parking lot on King Street, hiding from police. He was arrested without incident and taken into custody.
