Oak Bay – COVID-19 has had a huge effect on many local businesses, but that hasn’t stopped most from making sure that they are still able to offer their customers the same quality service that they have always received. For this reason, The Saint Croix Courier has created the Shine On campaign, which will award a business that has gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic. Readers have been encouraged to nominate the businesses that they feel are deserving of this award, and one of those businesses is OK Tire in Oak Bay.
Tom Cloney, manager of OK Tire, said because they were considered an essential service, they were not required to close their doors as many other businesses in the area were. But, they did take steps to ensure that their customers could feel safe and comfortable when doing business with them.
“We’ve changed our showroom around so everything has a social distance,” said Cloney. “We offer to pick up and deliver vehicles. People have the option of just dropping their cars off outside without coming in, and paying by credit card. We’ve been able to offer all of our full service, but changing the way we do it.”
Cloney said they have taken all possible precautions for their customers and staff, including placing social distancing dots on the floor, installing plexiglass at the counters, and having showroom seating spaced so people will be six feet apart, as per recommendations from the Province of New Brunswick. They also have a few questions that they ask customers before they enter the building.
“We ask people, first of all, if they have any of the symptoms, they’re asked not to come in. Masks, we don’t make people wear masks, as long as they can physical distance. We also have the hand sanitizer right when you come in so you can sanitize your hands.”
Cloney is very happy to know that his customers thought enough of the business and its management and staff to take the time to nominate OK Tire for a Shine On award. He said they will continue to practice these new safety measures in order to ensure that all of their customers and staff can have a safe and pleasant experience.
