St. Stephen man charged with attempted murder after Canada Day incident

St. Stephen – A 44-year-old man from St. Stephen, NB has been charged with attempted murder following an assault with a weapon at a residence in St. Stephen.

On July 1, 2020, shortly before 10:45 a.m, members from the St. Stephen RCMP responded to a report of a man being assaulted with baseball bat at an apartment building on Union Street. When police arrived they found the victim, a 52-year-old man from St. Stephen, with serious head injuries. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Later that day, a man was arrested at another residence in St Stephen in relation to the incident.

On July 2, 2020, Ken Broniszewski appeared in court by way of a tele-remand and was charged with attempted murder. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Saint John Provincial Court on July 6, 9:30 a.m., for a bail hearing.

Police believe this was not a random act. The investigation is continuing.
