Pennfield – The Pennfield Lions Club will be hosting a Terry Fox Square Dance fundraiser with a special guest, on Saturday, September 14.
Kirsten Fox, Terry Fox’s niece, will be travelling all the way from BC to speak at the event, which will kick off at 1 p.m. with a meet and greet.
Frank McCallum, who, along with his wife, has been involved with the square dancing club in Pennfield for the last 20 years said, “This year, we hope to finally get over the hundred thousand dollar mark.”
McCallum said the club has been hosting this fundraiser since 2000, and in that time they have raised a total of around $97,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, which funds cancer research in Canada and across the world.
The dance will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m, but for the non-dancers out there, there will still be plenty to do.
McCallum said, “We appreciate all the donations, and the help we’ve had in getting so close to $100,000 raised. It’s always a good time, there is a silent auction, along with a live auction after the dance, and of course a BBQ.”
McCallum added that there will be a Luminary service in the evening for people to honour those who have passed.
Entrance to the fundraiser can be obtained by those who have pledged $20 or more in donations, or by buying a ticket for $10.
